Gods are the primary characters in every major world mythology. They are responsible for the creation, sustenance and in many cases destruction of the planet earth. Most of them are described as having their abode in the sky or heavens while some have been attributed to various constellations in the sky. There are instances where the gods are said to be residents of earth as well.

Although predominantly immortal in nature, they tend to be susceptible to attacks by other gods or mortals and there are plenty of examples where they have been vanquished in the stories that they are a part of.

Some of these characters have stood the test of time and continue to be worshipped even today in various cultures. They also form the basis of many modern and regional religions which are still practiced.
