Did Bumba create the world due to indigestion?

Well… According to the Kuba people of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa, it most certainly was how Bumba did it..

Bumba or Mbombo was the creator god in the mythology of this part of Africa. It is believed that originally nothing but darkness and water existed and Bumba was extremely lonely. One day he felt intense pain in his stomach and vomited out the sun, the moon and the stars. This caused the world to be filled with light and heat which caused the water to evaporate and form clouds, sky and land.

Bumba vomited once again and it brought 9 animals into existence – Leopard, Eagle, Crocodile, fish, tortoise, black leopard, white heron, goat and a scarab.

These animals went onto to create all other animals who were similar to them like the goat created all horned animals and the fish created all fishes and so on. 3 of Bumba’s sons also helped create things like ants, trees, plants and the kite. Before leaving the humans to enjoy the creations, Bumba also gave them the knowledge of fire.

This creation story is one of the most unique when compared to creation stories in any other mythology and we have not come across anything similar till date. We will be the first ones to let you know if anything pops up during our research.
