Exploring Mythology’s Continued Success In The World Of iGaming

Casino gaming companies have been inspired by various themes and genres since they exploded into the digital market at the start of this century. However, it’s fair to say that they have had the most success by tapping into the power of mythology, the creatures, and the lore that comes with it.

If you do not partake in casino gaming or play other types of casino games like poker, you might not have seen how influential and deep this mythology has become.

Sure, some versions of video poker have an overarching theme, but the influence is much deeper in other parts of the iGaming world. Video poker casino games do have a different appeal than the more conventional versions of the game, but video poker variants tend to switch around some of the rules, rather than opt for completely different themes, the likes of which are prevalent in slot gaming.

Tapping Into The Allure

You could ask two different casino gamers why they enjoy mythology-based games, and you could get two completely different answers. Tapping into the allure of mythology is something that cultivates a number of different emotions for casino gamers.

There’s an overarching market for mythology games, movies, and various forms of entertainment. While it didn’t take a genius in the slot gaming world to figure out that they would have some crossover potential, few predicted just how influential they would become in slot game design.

Even individual Gods and lore, such as the War Gods of Ancient Greece and Rome, have dozens of games that have been dedicated to their legend. Gamers who enjoy this lore and mythology feel a sense of familiarity when they see it in a slot design, thanks to the eye-catching and captivating imagery, music, and symbolism closely associated with these immortal demigods.

A Broad Range Of Options

Mythology isn’t just Greece, Rome, or Norse; iGaming companies have tapped into every possible lore there is. We’ve seen a considerable number of Irish mythology slots find great success, and this approach has also fared well when incorporating other types of mythology influences, such as the Incas and the Egyptians.

The appeal of Irish mythology is often honed in on lucky symbols and ideas. Leprechauns, pots of gold at the end of the rainbow, and other fortune-dwelling tales have helped to fuse it seamlessly into the world of slot gaming and casino jackpots. Ancient Greece also has closer ties to gold fortunes than some might believe, too. All of this helps to engrain mythology into the appeal of these games.

Unlike the rigidity of classic games, which, despite their appeal, do not have the same level of flexibility as slots, this means that the net can be cast as far as possible to try and identify ideas that have the ability to break into the iGaming universe.

Slot games can have a basic grid of 3×3; they can also exceed 100 squares. Some have small max payouts of 500x, others offer 50,000x. Free spins, bonus rounds, and games can be games unto themselves in the age of modern design. However, some slots altogether avoid this, opting for the basic look and feel of the original conventional design, transposed to a digital platform, smartphone, or portable device.

Global Marketing Potential

The rise of social media has been a welcome addition in the world of gambling. It has allowed brands to leverage Instagram, YouTube, and other marketing channels to attract as many people as possible to explore their latest games and strategies.

In North America, the rise of the American and Canadian market has opened up an entirely new stream of income and customer appeal. Mythology titles have been a hit since day one in established markets like the UK, Ireland, and Australia. Launching them into fresh American markets has been a no-brainer and has resulted in continued success.

Will The Market Saturate?

Admittedly, there are only so many mythology games that can be made before the market begins to reach a bottleneck. Despite the ongoing appeal of these games, there are other areas of the iGaming world that are beginning to encourage innovation.

The rise of alternative payment casinos that champion blockchain technology and Bitcoin has been a stark contrast to previous innovations, which have primarily focused on fresh gaming ideas. Bitcoin, as a casino gaming payment, has been able to maximize its potential given its phenomenal success in traditional financial markets

However, although mythology might not be the main inspiration behind iGaming innovation over the next decade, there will definitely be games that find a market if they are marketed and designed effectively.
