Oceanian animals refer to the various animals and creatures that have a major role to play in the traditions, culture and belief system of the indigenous tribes of Micronesia, Polynesia, Melanesia and the Australian continent. These animals can be both positive and negative in their influence on the overall storyline. The various tribes of the region have their own versions of these characters and tend to follow similar storylines.

These animals tend to be inspired by the animals that are naturally found in the region and the influence of the vast oceans around the region is seen in the number of aquatic characters. They tend to be much higher than other mythologies who usually have a lager collection of land animals.
