Native American animals refer to the various animals that have a part to play in the mythologies, religions and traditions of the various Native American tribes of the USA and Canada. These civilizations and cultures although developed individually, they have characteristics that are both common as well as unique between them. Many of the animals that are a part of one mythology finds a place in the other as well due to the proximity that they shared.

These animals tend to reflect the natural wildlife in the region and also are concentrated in the way in which they are represented in the stories and mythology. They are usually a way for the main heroes to prove their worth via conflict and also in many cases, to be a helpful guide to these mortals as well.
