Celtic Mythology
Celtic Mythology strongly helps in identifying a distinctively unique group of people with a great cultural heritage in Europe. This mythology is one birthed through the fusion of both the culture of these people and the religion practiced by them. This mythology dates as far back as the Iron Age where the Celtic Gods played the role of protagonists in the build and development of the mythology.
Celtic mythology is characterized by deities who have helped strangers visualize the distinct feature of the Celtic culture. These deities have played their parts in various dimensions throughout the history of the people, right before the original language of this culture was lost just after the Iron Age. Some of these deities include ancestral gods such as Dagda, Lug, Nuada, Ogmios-Ogmé, Brigatina, Morrigane, and Epona. Celtic Mythology is also home to heroes such as Merlin, Ogmios, and Manannan.
The history and mythology of the Celts was one that transcended beyond drums of war and the bottles of fine liquor but was characterized by strong spiritual and metaphysical sides. This is the reason why there were great manifestations of spiritual activities and beings such as fairies, elves, and other creatures.
The role of symbols in Celtic mythology cannot be underplayed as they helped in the development of the myths by graphically enriching the stories told and the messages converted in those stories. Therefore, we see the effect of the earth, air, and water in the development of the mythology of the Certs.
Celtic Mythology may still exist in parts today but the Celts are totally sure that the information about their mythology is not absolutely complete. This is due to the fact that after the Iron age, most of the language spoken at the time was lost, and that led to problems in the transfer of this great cultural history to the next generation. Therefore, from then on, the mythology of the Celts was heard but in parts.
