European Mythology
European mythology in the context of this website revolves around all the mythologies from the regions inside Europe apart from the Greek, Roman and Norse Mythologies. Stories may be termed myth, quite excusable. However, one distinct feature of a myth over a story is that it is rooted in the culture of the people. European Mythology is laced with both culture, religion, and a thin line in-between it, with the presence of legends, myths, heroes, spirits, and gods.
When we speak of European Mythology, we talk about the mythology of the entire creation of Europa; Greek, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and other mythology. The mythologies of these countries form the crux of the mythology of Europe.
Placing the teaching of European Mythology will be leaving out the rest of the makeup of Europe (the whole countries within the continent). However, it is worthy of note that the name Europe is said to have come from the legend of Europa, wife of Zeus and mother of his three wise sons. She, Europa, gave her name as the origin of the entirety of Europe.
The mythology of Europe is characterized by various gods spanning through the whole of the continent. From Celtic to Turiacus, various gods set the course for the myth of Europe. Some of these gods include Aramazd (the Armenian creator god), Barsamin (the Armenian sky god) and others.
European Mythology also follows the story of the god of Odin. The god of Odin was a wolf with a spear in his hand and a raven. To gain knowledge of the runic alphabet, Odin is said to have hung himself upside down on the cosmological tree Yggdrasil.
The mythology in Europe has been passed from generation to generation because of the much love for culture and religion wrapped around it. Hence, literary and oral literature still exists around various cultures across Europe.
