The many gods of ancient Philippine mythology draw their origin to ancient Philippine mythology consisting of various stories about mythical creatures, creation stories, and beliefs about deities. Some tribes believed that a single Supreme Being created everything in the universe, while others worship various forest and tree deities.

The term diwatas comes from the Sanskrit word devata, which means “deity.” There are a number of Hindu influences in the ancient Philippines. In the Philippines, the Tagalog people are considered to be the largest ethnic group. They live in various regions, including Marinduque, Manila, and southern Luzon. They have a common set of gods that differ widely with the other regions.
