Indian demigods are one of the largest categories in Indian mythology. With a wide array of gods, the presence of demigods should not be a surprise. In many cases demigods are considered to be “lesser gods” although many of them are placed on a much higher status that the main gods. There are whole sects of worshippers of Krishna and Rama in many parts of India.

Indian demigods tend to be either an avatar or a human manifestation of one of the gods. These avatars could be born to  human parents, a form taken by the gods for a specific purpose, offspring arising from taking one of these forms, created from natural elements or even just appear on earth out of nowhere.
