Indian animals refer to the many characters in Indian mythology who have prominent roles in the overall storylines and folklore. They are considered to be lesser character but can also be the main protagonist or antagonist in their own arc.

These animals are usually shown to be a trusted partner to gods, demigods and mortals within the pantheon of Indian mythology. They also have their own significance which is a part of modern day Hindu worship as well. While these animals are usually depicted as a mount or vehicle of the gods, they are never describes as pets or slaves.
