Indonesian animals in mythology are common and popular even today. The whole gamut of mythological creatures include animals that can even be seen in the jungles of Java, Sumatra and Borneo like the orangutan, boar, birds etc. These magical creatures are known to have fantastic powers, both good and bad and are usually perceived based on their associated characteristics.

The animals that are still alive and wild today tend to be looked upon with a direct correlation to what mythology says of them and the traditional perception of the Indonesian animals has outlasted the religious takeover of the country by Islam.
